Life after Gutenberg: Apprenticeships, Careers, and Graduate School

Gutenberg College exists to help students become excellent human beings. This goal stands in opposition to our culture’s deeply ingrained view that higher education’s main function is to further a student’s career goals.  This modern approach to education assumes that living well and wisely does not require education and that the key to a good life is having enough money.  We do not agree.

What role then does vocational training have at Gutenberg College? Part of living well and wisely entails taking responsibility for oneself. That responsibility can take many different forms. One of those is financial responsibility.  This is nearly always accomplished by a vocation.

Coupled with financial responsibility is the responsibility before God to use your gifts and training to encourage, love, and support those around you. In some cases, a vocation can be a vehicle for acting on that responsibility.

Thus, providing support for students in seeking out and pursuing a vocation comes under the broad goals Gutenberg espouses. As such, we provide students with a wide variety of aids and assistance for post-graduate schooling and finding a career.
