About the Author: Jack Crabtree

Jack Crabtree
Jack Crabtree was a tutor at Gutenberg College and the director of McKenzie Study Center, an institute of Gutenberg College, from 1994 to 2016. He joined MSC in 1981, and his teaching there focused on interpretation of the biblical texts and biblical philosophy, the history of philosophy and theology, religious epistemology, and hermeneutics. Jack is a co-author of The Language of God: A Commonsense Approach to Understanding and Applying the Bible, and the author of The Most Real Being: A Biblical and Philosophical Defense of Divine Determinism (Gutenberg College Press). He has a Ph.D. in philosophy.

Our Board Chairman, Paul Pindell, has been working tirelessly for the last few months to bring our beloved kitchen a fresh new look. (You'll see new cabinet doors with drawer pulls, new paint, and a much improved floor.)⁠

Ruben from Environment Control donated his crew’s time and the materials to scrub, seal, and finish the newly installed kitchen floor last night. A big shout out and thank you to Ruben and the many other volunteers who have stepped into beautify Gutenberg!

    One of the residents’ favorite events is the Hou One of the residents’ favorite events is the House Retreat, when they all go to the coast for the weekend. It’s a time of good food, fun, camaraderie, and most importantly - choosing house chores! 😜

In the Young Philosophers series, Gutenberg College opens its (virtual) doors to high-school-age participants for thoughtful online discussion of important ideas.⁠

Leading this session of Young Philosophers will be Dr. Chris Swanson. Chris is the president of Gutenberg College where he has been a tutor since the college opened its doors in 1994. He has a B.S. in physics and math and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in physics. He has also done post-doctoral research at the University of Oregon and taught at Westmont College in California.⁠

The work of the philosopher is to seek the truth regardless of circumstances, and one cannot begin it too soon. On July 23, Gutenberg College opens its (virtual) doors to young philosophers for a day of thoughtful discussion about important philosophical ideas.⁠
