DESCRIPTION:The broader culture says that “love is love.” So\, what does this tautology mean? If love is love\, then what is love? Is it an emotion or a choice or a commitment? Is it temporary or lasting? Is it temporal or transcendent? When Jesus talks about love\, is he saying\, “love is love\,” or is he saying something different? If the greatest commandments are\, first\, to love the Lord our God with all our heart\, soul\, mind\, and strength and\, second\, to love our neighbor as ourselves\, then love is a topic worthy of inquiry. In this session of Young Philosophers\, we will explore key questions and issues of love. \nYoung Philosophers is an online discussion for high-school-aged students. Join us for “What Is Love?” on Monday\, January 12\, 2026\, from 6-7 p.m. PST. Eliot holds a B.A. in music from Goucher College (2005)\, an M.A. in ethnomusicology from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick (2007)\, and a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance (2011). He has performed\, recorded\, taught\, and lectured on Irish traditional music internationally.
