Gutenberg vice president and tutor Eliot Grasso will give a talk and lead a workshop at the 2026 CiRCE Youth Conference,  “A Celebration of Loyalty and Liberty,” in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 15-18.

The title of Dr. Grasso’s talk will be “Freedom, Discipline, and the Art of Living Well.” The modern age has framed art too broadly as virtually anything and everything. Yet, great art is the result of a long time spent disciplining the mind and body so that it can accomplish what the artist intends. Dr. Grasso will explore the relationship between freedom and discipline and how practice in the arts sheds light on what it means to live a good life.

The topic of his workshop will be “What does it mean to be free indeed?” The modern age tells us that true liberty is the ability to pursue whatever our hearts desire. The Bible, however, presents a different picture of what liberty involves. But what, in fact, do the biblical authors have in mind? Together, participants will look at passages from Scripture and discuss a biblical framework for liberty.
