Gutenberg tutor and vice president Dr. Eliot Grasso will speak on the topic of “Myth, Meaning, and the Art of Interpreting Reality.”
Talk description: A myth is more than a fantastical story. Rather, a myth is an interpretive framework that works to make sense of reality. Of course, what counts as real has changed over the millennia: from gods and astrology in the ancient world to atoms and impersonal laws in the modern. In this talk, we will consider the nature of myth, how (and why) myths change over time, and how in a culture where meaning is manufactured by siloed individuals, Christians can confidently embrace and share a revealed biblical framework of immense value with their neighbor.
