The President's Dinner is one of our favorite Gute The President's Dinner is one of our favorite Gutenberg traditions. Every winter term, in the middle of the gloomy and rainy PNW season, students, faculty, and friends come together to enjoy a home cooked meal prepared by the school President. Students bring jokes and stories that they share during the dinner. Current students now create and perform entire skits! Students are given a theme or genre that they can follow or parody. Over the last 29 years, the President's dinner has seen many variations of this, from Ancient epics and Arthurian legends, to Space Operas. Skits most often come as comedies (although tragedies have been snuck in), that poke fun at historical figures, ideas, philosophies, and fellow classmates 😉. It's a great time had by all.

The juniors and seniors were reading the Constitut The juniors and seniors were reading the Constitution and Federalist Papers. Instead of a normal discussion about checks and balances, they joined in a fun game in which they vied with each other for tyrannical power.
They split into four groups, Executive, Legislative, Judicial, and the People. Each group was given the goal of taking total control of the government by fair means or foul, while the other branches attempted to thwart them and gain their own control. Congress could make laws, while the President could veto and make executive orders, and the Supreme Court could render judgment on laws. The People were given a chance to elect new representatives from their number at periodic times.
The students went through a number of rounds of back and forth digging into the constitution for clues on how to get ahead. The exchanges were lively and spirited, everyone learned a great deal. It was a wonderful time!

Join us for “Free Will in Marvel’s Loki” on Join us for “Free Will in Marvel’s Loki” on Thursday, March 2, from 4-6 p.m. (PT). #linkinbio

Loki, the god of Mischief, has been presented with a paradox: Are his choices made by his own free will, or are they all pre-determined by He Who Remains, the TVA’s puppet master?
Is one’s purpose in life forged through personal decisions, or is it assigned by a “higher power”? Is it possible for freedom to work alongside determinism, or are they mutually exclusive?
Together, led by Gutenberg tutor Eliot Grasso, we will investigate the intersection of purpose, freedom, and personal responsibility.
