We are excited to hear Scott Postma (co-founder of We are excited to hear Scott Postma (co-founder of @keplereducation ) speak at our 2022 Education Conference: Learning for Life. The talk he is set to give has been titled “Preparing Students for a Life Worth Living”, and (if that's not enticing enough!) here's a taste of what Scott will be touching on in this talk:

Socratic dialogue animated by the Christian gospel is the foundation and the power of a liberal (i.e., liberating) education. A liberating education can only happen when the teacher, in humility, becomes the model of learning by positioning him or herself as the first learner in the classroom and when the students, in humility, recognize that they, too, only know that they know nothing and look to their teacher as the model of living the examined life. The teacher who, like Socrates, embraces this role of first among self-examiners, both inside and outside the classroom, will be most apt to prepare students for a life worth living.

We are grateful that Scott is joining us for EdCon 2022, and we hope to see you there as well in order to discuss what we can do to help prepare students for a life worth living

Every term, the residence program at Gutenberg has Every term, the residence program at Gutenberg has a House Work Day, when students, staff, and residents get together to work on projects like deep cleaning, weeding, landscaping, and reorganizing spaces that need attention. Together, the community has the opportunity to make the Gutenberg facilities a nicer place to live, work, and play.

This term we did a deep scrub of various parts in the kitchen, edged around beds and sidewalks, dug a new gravel pathway in the backyard, and removed some old yard debris. There were also some overgrown beds ripped out, and native herbs were transplanted into the newly finished garden box. Everyone who chipped in did a fantastic job and really earned the pizza afterward!

Community Class is this Wednesday! This week, Coli Community Class is this Wednesday! This week, Colin Stetter will be talking about:  “Understanding Group Think and Selfhood with the Help of Hoffer and Orwell.”

The past 100 years have seen the rise of a variety of mass movements, promoting just as varied motives and goals. This class will explore Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer in an effort to understand what mass movements appeal to in the individual and what sort of person is especially attracted to mass movements. We will compare Hoffer’s ideas, a “bottom-up” approach, to Orwell’s “top-down” observations regarding the tools modern political structures employ to achieve mass obedience.

Details: May 18th, 6:30 pm @ Gutenberg College
NOTE: This class may be attended in person at Gutenberg College or online via Zoom. There is a small charge for remote attendance. Registration is required to attend via Zoom.

If you're like most people looking for colleges ri If you're like most people looking for colleges right now, your thoughts about college are probably in a bit of a jumble. Perhaps you've thought about what you'd like to major in, what kind of campus you'd like to live on, or how much you can afford to pay.

You might be asking yourself, "What college should I go to?" Before answering that question, though, you might consider a more fundamental one: "What kind of college should I go to?" The factors that most people assume to be important when choosing a college—reputation, location, tuition, etc.—may not have much to do with who you really are and what you are really looking for in a college education.

So, we've designed the College Discovery to help you discover what factors do matter to you. Find it here: https://www.tryinteract.com/share/quiz/5fa9e744598e4b0014fe9057
