Monetary Gifts

Of course, giving money to Gutenberg College is the most popular type of charitable gift, which you can do anywhere you see the blue “Donate Online” link on our website.

A contribution made by credit card can be deducted when the charge is made, regardless of the billing cycle. Otherwise, your monetary gift is considered made on the date that cash is hand-delivered or a check/money order is mailed (postmark date).

Because of the availability of the income-tax charitable-contribution deduction, the net cost to you of a monetary gift is lower than the face value of the gift. Monetary gifts are fully deductible up to fifty percent of your adjusted gross income. Any excess over the fifty-percent deduction ceiling can be carried forward for up to five additional years.

Stocks

Individuals who would like to donate stock can do so by a transferring stock to Gutenberg College’s TD Ameritrade account. For further information or instructions, email Gutenberg College, and put “Vice President of Finance” in the subject line.

Non-Cash Assets

Tax savings increase when you give non-cash assets such as appreciated real estate or securities.

Gifts of appreciated assets are fully deductible up to thirty percent of the donor’s adjusted gross income for that year. Any excess over the thirty percent deduction can be carried forward for up to five additional years.

Retirement Income

If you need income for yourself or others, charitable-remainder trusts, pooled-income funds, and charitable-gift annuities allow you to give an asset to Gutenberg College now and receive income for the rest of your life. After your death, the college uses your gift for the purpose you specified.

Making a bequest to Gutenberg College allows you to retain ownership and control of all your assets during your lifetime when you may need them. A charitable bequest may also reduce the size of your taxable estate.

Fred Meyer Rewards

Fred Meyer Community Rewards is another simple way that you can help Gutenberg College. Every time you shop and use your Rewards Card, you are helping us earn a donation. Here’s how the program works:

  • Sign up for the Community Rewards program by linking your Fred Meyer Rewards Card to Gutenberg at www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards. You can search for us by our name or by our non-profit number: 88485.
  • You still earn your Rewards Points, Fuel Points, and Rebates, just as you already do if you have a card.
  • If you do not have a Rewards Card, they are available at the Customer Service desk of any Fred Meyer store.

The eScrip Program

The eScrip fundraising program coordinates with local and online merchants to help non-profit organizations. Up to eight percent of what you spend on groceries, clothing, airline tickets, dining-out, and other items can be donated to Gutenberg.

For example, if you shop at Market of Choice, the store will donate two to four percent of the amount you spend on your monthly purchases. The larger your grocery bill, the higher the percentage the store will donate.

For more information and to participate, go to escrip.com, where you can register to participate in eScrip by selecting the “Sign Up!” button. The website will take you through a few simple steps to register. When you are asked to “Select your school or nonprofit,” simply type “Gutenberg College.”

On the website, you will also find a list of participating local merchants or be able to shop online.

The eScrip program is administered by Electronic Scrip, Inc. (ESI), a registered corporation in the State of California. If you have questions about privacy and security, please read ESI’s privacy statement on the eScrip website.
